Archive files in Ubuntu..

A while ago I wrote a quick Rom Archive Tutorial for begginers.

I’ve noticed a lot of people have been coming to the site looking for help on installing support for rar, zip & 7zip files, only to find that this tutorial has stopped working correctly. This was because the names of the packages were changed within the Ubuntu repo’s.

I’ve redone the tutorial to include the updated package names & it should now work as promised. I’ve only tested this in Feisty, but as far as I know the package names have been changed to the same for all versions. If not then please contact me & let me know 🙂

Although the package p7zip-full has support for 7z, ZIP, Zip64, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM, ISO and DEB formats, the default archive frontend doesn’t fully support it yet. It will give you the support for standard 7zip (7z) files through the frontend & you can always use the command line to make full use of the software if need be.
